Opening That Door And Passing Through It Put Him In A Completely Different World. A Few Steps forward or a few steps back At that point and there was a significant difference in atmosphere. Starbucks Always Felt Like That To Ronald. The Scent of ideally Roasted Coffee Beans and placid jazz notes glided softy to the nose and ear, respectively.
There were few people here, some occupied with books, some taking advantage of the wireless internet here, some simply staring out at a stressful world that there were glad to be separate from. The kind Ronald found here; He Always though them to be sophisticated and admired them. He’d Give Anything to Be Them. Anything To Escape Himself. But, All of these thoughts were forgotten the instant He spotted two female baristas behind the counter. He stood up a little Straighter and approached the counter. “I’ll Be with you in a second,” Said The Shorter Of the two baristas before handing out a steaming hot coffee to and older gentleman who nodded to the girl and left.
Ronald ran his fingers through his hair and surveyed the Shelf beside him while waiting. It was lined neatly with bags of nearly every blend Starbucks had to offer. He chuckled, remembering his taste in coffee and other things being called “High-Dollar” by his grandfather.
He drifted from the counter While the Memories Twirled in his head, oblivious to the conversation the two barista where having. However, It Didn’t Stay That Way for long. As Ronald Stood There the Short, Blonde Barista Brought Ronald Back to the Present with a question, “…Don’t You Agree?”
He blinked, “Uh yeah…Definitely.” Ronald Had No Idea What He Just Agreed to.
“See, Even He Thinks So!” She Said confidently to her co-worker and then turned to face a stupefied Ronald again to take his order. There was Usually Scripted Exchange and Then She Left to Prepare his drink. Ronald gave a sigh of relief and looked over at the other busy barista who slipped into the back of the cafe and out of sight. Moments Later The Blonde Barista Returned To Ronald.“Here… I Made This for You…” She Said With A Smile. Ronald’s gut tightened.
There was something about the way she said it. Was It Her Tone? Her charismatic appearance? Whatever It Was, Ronald was flattered. It was not an ordered icy frappuccino she gave him. It was a gift from a friend. At least That’s The Feeling It Gave Him.
“Thanks” He said, looking at her strongly. Then, Ronald Made His way to an empty table near the front of the restaurant with a bit of energy in his step. Upon Sitting Down he immediately began to swirl the whipped cream and strands of fudge around inside the cup, studying it intensely. He wondered why there was always such separation between others and himself. If only he could just mix himself into their lives somehow…. He hadn’t noticed but,The Chair In front of him moved….
“And Where’s Mine?” Someone Asked, Half- Jokingly. Ronald looked up at Allie and she tilted her head, waiting for a response. “Fine”, He said, sliding his untouched Frap over to Allie and looking away. Satisfied, she moved her hair aside and began to greedily guzzle Ronald’s Beverage. She stopped abruptly and slammed the cup on the table.
“Good, You Deserve It…” Ronald Commented with a cruel Grin. Allie Twisted And Turned in pain, Gripping her forehead. It Was A Massive Brain freeze. As torture Endured and Allie made several failed Attempts to Stomp Ronald’s foot. “Look, You Asked For It...” He jeered before retrieving his ear buds and putting them in and Setting the Music to A reasonable level.
The Door to the Cafe didn’t make a sound but there was a rush of air and a young woman in a beige Trench coat made her way into The Establishment, stopping just a few feet from where Ronald was. She Had Medium Length brown hair and a face Ronald Recognized From the past, though slightly Changed. Ronald’s eyes widened and his breathing ceased as the sight of her dredged up unfortunate recollections. She stood there scanning the tables, overlooking Ronald who immediately looked at the floor and prayed she wouldn’t see him.
Allie whispered, “Ronald, look…Its Amanda.” He Tried To Dismiss it, “No I Think Its Someone Else.. There was no way she could be here…” Her Sudden Appearance here shook him. He wondered if he was dreaming since that would be the only viable explanation. “I Think That You Should Know, Ronald. She’d Tell You if-“
“No. I’m the last one to know.” He said resentfully. She should Be Halfway across The world Right Now but this person who appeared to be her moved across the cafe and sat at an occupied table next to theirs. Ronald Tensed Up and Adjusted his chair so Amanda couldn’t see his face.
“A-O-A Are You Okay?,” Asked A Concerned Allie, slapping the table.” Say Something.”
Ronald was at a lost as to what he should say. What Kind Of A person would he be if he just ignored her? What was She Expecting? Ronald Was Inundated with Nervousness and he began to feel hot, “I Don’t Know what to do…”

Aloha 'Oe (Farewell to Thee) is Queen Lili'uokalani's most famous song and a common cultural Leitmotif for Hawaii. The song was inspired by a horseback trip she took in 1877 to the windward side of O'ahu. After visiting the Boyd ranch in Maunawili, Lili'uokalani witnessed a farewell embrace between Colonel James Boyd and one of the young ranch ladies. A tune came to her on the ride home and she composed the words once she returned to Washington Place.

Washington Place, located at 320 South Beretania Street, was the site where Queen Lili'uokalani was arrested during the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom and later became the official residence of the Governor of Hawai'i. The Greek Revival home was built to the design of Isaac Hart in 1847 by Daniel Jenner for Captain John Dominis, who was lost at sea a few months earlier on a voyage to China to purchase household furnishings. The widow Mary Dominis rented out rooms in the home to support herself, one of which was to Anthony Ten Eyck, an American Commissioner to the islands appointed by President James K. Polk who established the American Legation in the house. Ten Eyck named the house "Washington Place" in a February 22, 1848 letter, after George Washington in celebration of the first US president's birthday.

The foundation of the building, the lower level walls and the lower columns are all constructed of coral stone. The upper floor is of wood frame construction. Washington Place conforms to period French Creole Greek Revival houses that were built along the lower Gulf-Coastal region of the southeastern United States. The home was constructed with an almost square core surrounded by a peristyle, a two tiered verandah, Tuscan columns on its upper floor, and a hipped roof. The interior is arranged in a traditional Georgian floor plan, with four distinct parlors on the first floor and four bedchambers on the second floor.

William Little Lee made Washington Place his home from 1849–1854. Lee was instrumental in integrating a Western legal system in the Hawaiian Islands, based upon the Massachusetts model, and authored the Great Mahele, which introduced private land ownership into Hawaiian culture.

Lydia Kamakaeha Paki, the future Queen Lili'uokalani and the Heir Apparent to the throne of the Kingdom of Hawai'i, married John Owen Dominis, the son of John Dominis, in 1862. After Mary Dominis died in 1889, and John Owen Dominis died in 1891, Washington Place was left to Lili'uokalani, who just became Queen after the death of her brother, King Kalakaua. In 1893, the Queen was arrested here and ultimately tried before a military tribunal, where she was charged with and convicted of concealment of treason against the new government, the Republic of Hawai'i. After her release, she resided at Washington Place for the remainder of her life. She died in the downstairs bedroom of the house on November 11, 1917.

Beginining in 1918, Washington Place became the Executive Mansion for twelve territorial and state governors of Hawai'i. Technically it was the residence of 13 governors because John Owen Dominis, the queen's consort, was Royal Governor of the island of O'ahu from 1868 to 1891. The home served in this role until 2002, when it became a historic house museum.

John H, White, Jr., Transportation Curator of the Smithsonian Institution, described No. 1005 as "one of the very oldest American freight cars in existence ..." Originally built at a cost of $800 in 1872 by the Central Pacific Railroad Shops at Sacramento, the outside braced combination boxcar first saw service on the Virginia & Truckee early in 1873.

The choice of this particular type of car, with its open and/or closed style of doors and windows, proved superior very early to transporting not only merchandise, but perishable supplies and livestock. Since the V&T had very little rolling stock of its own, and rented locomotives, passenger and freight cars from the Central Pacific in the first years, it is not surprising that when the need arose for cars that the V&T chose to order them from the CP.

Identified as a combination boxcar, the yellow painted No. 1005 was one of five CP built boxcars that enabled the V&T to carry a multitude of loads. Originally furnished with hazardous link and pin couplers and hand operated brakes, new ICC rules laid down in the late 1890's compelled the V&T to equip the car with a safer type of coupler and Westinghouse air brakes. It was also during this decade the 30,000 lb. capacity car lost the distinctive vented side and end doors when shop crews converted it into a more conventional style.

Because of its restricted carrying capacity, No. 1005 saw limited service after the early 1900's. By 1916, records indicate the 43 year-old boxcar was no longer listed on the roster as the V&T's freight business fell short to warrant upgrading the car. No. 1005 was then detrucked and used as a tool house at Scales for the next 20 years. Then in 1933, to fulfill Paramount Pictures' request for vintage railroad rolling stock for their film epic "Union Pacific," the wooden car body was resurrected, placed on trucks and shipped to the movie location in Utah.
